Custom Coat Closet Solution
Is your home missing a functional coat closet for guests to hang jackets or store handbags? You are about to find a beautiful solution. SML can elevate your home with an aesthetic set of wall hooks doubling as a gorgeous piece of art featuring natural wood, topography and functionality all in one place.

We recently moved…
and discovered that the office in our new home had a recessed cubby in the wall that the former owners had used as a coat closet. For us, this wasn’t the best functional use of the space. Having other plans for the cubby impression in the wall, we removed the coat rod and were left with a new problem. Where are guests going to put their things?

Asking ourselves Why? and How? Turned out to be invaluable as we discovered our demand for a permanent coat closet wasn’t very high. Did we actually need a big storage spot dedicated to coats? We already had a mudroom for our personal items.
- How often will we have guests?
- How often will a guest be wearing a coat/hat?
- How much money are we willing to spend on a solution (remodeling etc.)?
- How important is this to us?
Functionality and beauty merge
Our white hallway was a blank slate that we wanted to purchase a large piece of art for. My husband is the one who suggested a new but longer hook set. We already had a beautiful piece in the walk-in pantry for aprons that served as his inspiration.

Then I grabbed a sheet of paper and drew a draft of a custom idea that came to mind. My husband chose the topography region and after a few emails and monetary exchange a package arrived.
Installation is quite easy as Designs by SML include all the hardware you need to complete the project. We had our own drill and stud finder to ensure a secure installation.
The final product is beautiful and a brilliant solution. A gorgeous set of hooks that serve our guests’ needs. Additionally, it satisfies our wish for a beautiful piece of art.
